James Mathers
Filmmaker/Cinematographer, President of the Digital Cinema Society
Filmmaker, James Mathers began his career in the entertainment industry as a child actor appearing in many films and TV series of the 1960’s. Behind the lens professional work started after he attended film school and a wide variety of staff and freelance assignments led to a specialization in cinematography and the founding of his own business, The Migrant FilmWorkers. James has been the Director of Photography on over thirty feature films and MOWs and has seen six TV series from inception thru their first season. He has recently been specializing in shooting "filmstyle" digital, and while still active as a Cinematographer, also regularly produces, writes, and directs a variety of projects. He is the President and Cofounder of the nonprofit educational cooperative, The Digital Cinema Society, a group dedicated to the industry's informed integration of new technology, as well as a regular contributor to a number of industry trade journals.
With wife and writing partner, Charlene Mathers, Executive Director of DCS, he is currently writing and developing several motion picture and television projects. Jim's vast experience producing, directing, writing, shooting, acting and editing combined with his business acumen have created a talented and resourceful filmmaker who is eager and able to take on new creative challenges.
Brian McKernan
Journalist, Public Relations Executive, and Founder of Digital Cinema Magazine
Brian McKernan, former editorial director of Videography and founder of Digital Cinema magazine, is Vice President, Account Services for Marcomm Group. A journalist for the past 25 years, McKernan most recently was editor and associate publisher of Digital Cinema magazine, which he founded for United Entertainment Media (now CMP Information) in 2000. McKernan also served as editor of Videography from 1988 to 1999, a period that saw substantial growth in the magazine's ad pages. From 1995 to 2001 McKernan also served as editorial director of United Entertainment Media's Video Division, which included Videography, Government Video, Television Broadcast (now Digital Television), TVB/Europe, and Content Creation Europe.
McKernan is the co-editor of the book, Creating Digital Content: A Guide to Video Production for Web, Broadcast, and Cinema (McGraw Hill, 2001). His other editorial positions have included television editor of Broadcast Management/Engineering and associate editor at Omni magazine. McKernan is a member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers and lives in Rye NY with his wife and daughter.
